The Palestinians are stupid
An Israeli friend once told me, “The Palestinians are stupid.” Given that he was one of the many pro-peace Israelis I was surprised at his apparent racist comment but I knew he meant something totally different. So I asked him to explain.
He said, “All they have to do is nothing, I mean no fighting us, no bombings, no rockets, and Israel will colapse under the weight of internal contradictions. The orthodox hate the reformed and don’t even consider the seculars as Jewish. The Ashkenazim and the Sephardi don’t get along. The Russians hate everyone else and so on.”

Looking at the disaster going on in Palestein I tend to agree with my friend the best thing the Palestinians could do is to have a campagin of non-violence. They need a Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Mandela type of leader. They need to be sympathic. Things could not get any worse. However, the uncaring people of the world would have to care about this ethnic cleansing.
The American Jews who are typically way more progressive than the rest of the US population would see the situation not one of an existential threat to Israel but as an issue of human rights and would stop their knee-jerck support of Israel under every circumstance and soon the USA could take an even handed approach to the situation (say only 80%-20% biase towards Israel rather than the 99.99% pro Israeli position of today), and peace would come once we apply similar UN and Human Rights rules to Israel as we try to apply to say Sudan in Darfur.
One interesting thing is that thanks to the great political (and media) power of the extreme right wing pro-Israeli lobby in the United States, we are much more biased toward the Likhud approach than the Israeli public most of whome want to exchange the illegally occupied territories for permanat peace.
