A spiritual approach to politics

There are two types of holocaust deniers. The first type claim that the holocaust never took place or was much smaller than claimed. I was recently talking to a friend who said, I have visited the death camps. They are much smaller than imagined. At most 300,000 to a million were killed by the Germans.”

I replied that the murder of even a single person is evil but I thought that about 12 million were murdered in the Nazi death camps. And this brings me to the second type of holocaust deniers. When I was educated in England in the 60s, we learned that about 12 million souls were murdered in tn the holocaust. However, when I came to the USA I noticed that suddenly the holocaust became the death of 6 million Jews and all the others became discounted.

In fact even though the precise number of people murdered by the Nazis is still subject to further research. Recently declassified British and Soviet documents have indicated the total may be higher than the 12 million I previously believed. However, the following estimates are considered to be reasonably reliable:

* 5.6–6.1 million Jews
* 3.5–6 million Slavic civilians
* 2.5–4 million POWs
* 1–1.5 million political dissidents
* 200 000–800 000 Roma & Sinti (Gypsies)
* 200 000–300 000 handicapped
* 10 000–250 000 homosexuals
* 2 000 Jehovah’s Witnesses
