The easiest way out (of Iraq as well as Afghanistan) is through Iran. I don’t mean through attacking Iran but understanding that our national interests and those of Iran are very similar. Drop the dictatorial Arab client regimes and the apartheid one in Israel and join with Turkey and Iran.
Next we need to reduce our defense expenditure by eighty percent (still we would waste more on the military than any other nation in the world).
The money we save we can spend in a Manhattan/Apollo type of public science/engineering American ingenuity and brilliance project to free us from Mid East oil and global warming.
