Forget about race how about castles
I grew up in England and we used to say, “An Englishman’s home s his castle.” I believe the idea comes from Magna Carta which limited the rights of the King from all sorts of things and was the start of the quest for freedom and democracy in England at first and the whole Anglo-Saxon world including the USA.
So was what Sargent Crowley do stupid?
Absolutely.
Is he a racist?
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say he’s not.
Was this a case of testosterone poisoning?
Absolutely – on both sides.
But ultimately your home is your castle and no matter what happened Sargent Crowley had a choice to make that night. He could have walked away under provocation. That would have been the best for all sides.
I know I may have lost my cool if I got home after a long journey and the door did not open and then the police came to see what was going on. Most probably in spite of my frustration I would have managed to keep my cool, but maybe not – who knows how you would behave.
The one hero is the neighbor who reported the incident. I hope my neighbor cares enough to report any odd thing she observes going on with my home.
